Haas
welcomes students back to the comfort of school for another year Second-Years Model Standard Haas Attire: Neon Tights and Cut-off Jeans
It wasn’t
waking up early every morning, nor was it sitting for hours toying with
PowerPoint in my windowless cubicle. It
could have been the new addiction to Facebook, but it certainly wasn’t the
bi-weekly paycheck I was receiving.
Perhaps it was the lack of theme parties?
I guess it
could have been anything. See, for a
long time I didn’t know why I missed Haas and Berkeley. And then it hit me. As I picked up my dry cleaning for the last
time, I eyed the $27 price tag and understood exactly what it was: I missed
wearing my dirty Pumas and a hoodie every single day.
It was at
that moment that I realized I was ready to return to the warmth and comfort of
the Haas bubble. Well, to be fair, it
was both escaping the confines of business casual clothing and the prospect of
teaming with my beloved fellow second-years in corrupting the young and
malleable minds of the first-year MBAs that really drew me back to campus.
With that
said…WELCOME BACK! Or, I suppose,
WELCOME, if you are new to our amazing, wonderful, slightly neurotic little
world. Whether you are a first or second
year, grad or undergrad, bum or hippie, Berkeley is a place where everyone can
feel at home.

Advice from
the source of all Haas wisdom
Last year
I was in a relationship, so I never felt that I had the opportunity to really
meet many of the guys in my class. Now that I’m back (not from outer space) for
our second-year as a single and available woman, I’m interested in checking out
my options. Knowing most of the second-years, I’m not so much interested …
However, I have perused the first-year facebook and have identified some
potentials. How do I get their attention
away from the cute girls in the first-year class?

A summer of
lessons learned - How to succeed at your summer job
As part of
my summer internship at a digital infrastructure company, my job was to figure
out the APAC strategy for one of the product lines, OCSMS.
My routine
was pretty basic: go to the office, sit in front of the computer, read news and
reply to e-mail. So pretty much anybody could do my job...well not really, as
some of the e-mail issues I deal with can be quite dangerous.
One day I
got to work, sat down and grabbed a cup of Starbucks coffee (they are
everywhere...including the unglamorous and dingy pantry at my office), trained
my eyes to the dim light and switched
on my computer.

First-years
take note: there is life beyond reading cases and calculating NPVs
Here’s a
rundown of a few lasting Haas memories from last year. You know they’ll be back to haunt you sooner
or later, so might as well make peace with them now.
